Osiyo a le Ulihelisdi! Hello and welcome to the website for Cherokees of Orange County

Cherokees of Orange County was established in December 2006 to promote and nurture the historical values, heritage, and roots of our ancestors for those Cherokee People living outside the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. We strive to learn and retain the Cherokee language, culture, and history. Our focus is on traditional arts and activities.  We currently meet monthly in Anaheim and enjoy good food, great conversation, and have made many new friends and reconnected with family.

Since our inception we have learned how to weave traditional doublewall baskets, made gourd rattles, and crafted cornhusk dolls.  We have participated in traditional pastimes such as the basket game, blowguns, and shared our many talents among our membership.  We recently held a course in genealogy and are presently learning the Cherokee language.

Please visit the meetings page for more information about our monthly events.

Ed Carey

One of our council members, Ed Carey was in a serious motorcycle crash recently. He was on the Ortega Hwy in Riverside County, when his bike came out from under him. He flew down an embankment and rescue had to get him back onto the road. He was left with a broken collarbone, 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung that collapsed from one of the ribs, 5 fractured thoracic vertebrae, and a mangled finger on his left hand, along with assorted bumps and bruises. Ed is in Inland Valley Hospital, Wildomar, Room 259. We are sure he would like to receive calls of support.

Ed's younger brother, Bob, is on Hospice and not expected to live through the week. And Ed's father just passed away Wednesday 7/21 from a heart attack.

Please keep Ed and his family in your good thoughts and prayers for comfort at this time of hardship and loss.
