Osiyo a le Ulihelisdi! Hello and welcome to the website for Cherokees of Orange County |
Cherokees of Orange County was established in December 2006 to promote and nurture the historical values, heritage, and roots of our ancestors for those Cherokee People living outside the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. We strive to learn and retain the Cherokee language, culture, and history. Our focus is on traditional arts and activities. We currently meet monthly in Anaheim and enjoy good food, great conversation, and have made many new friends and reconnected with family. Since our inception we have learned how to weave traditional doublewall baskets, made gourd rattles, and crafted cornhusk dolls. We have participated in traditional pastimes such as the basket game, blowguns, and shared our many talents among our membership. We recently held a course in genealogy and are presently learning the Cherokee language. Please visit the meetings page for more information about our monthly events. |
